College Committees
Democracy requires an informed citizenry and transparency of information which are vital to its
functioning and also to contain corruption and to hold governments and their instrumentalities
accountable to the governed. Right to information is an act of the parliament of India which sets
out the rules and procedures regarding citizens’ right to information. RTI was introduced to
empower citizens to question the government and its working. Any citizen could request for
information that does not threaten the internal security and integrity of India.
The basic objective of the Right to information act is to empower citizens, promote transparency
and accountability in the working of the government, contain corruption and make our
democracy work for the people in real sense. All citizens possess the right to information which
can be obtained within 30 days from the date of request in a normal case. If information is a
matter of life or liberty of a person, it can be obtained within 48 hours from time of request.
The college has a committee on RTI to empower students and aware them about it.

Career Preferences - BA/BCom/BSc. 3rd Year
Govt. Degree College Banjar has a career guidance and counseling cell, which offers all kinds of counseling and career guidance activities. At present, Prof. Suresh Kumar, Department of Sociology is the convener of this cell along with Dr. Duni Chand, Prof. Richa Ahluwaliya, Prof. Tikkam Ram and Prof. Vikas Negi as members of this cell. Career counseling isthe systematic process of analyzing student’s strengths, interests, skills and abilities, and mapping it with the right career options and education. Everyone requires career guidance at some point in their life. The career counselors will link the attributes of a student to the available career options to create a personalized roadmap. Career counselors also takeone-on-one sessions to discuss various factors affecting choices in alignment with future prospects. Career Counselinghelps students in understanding the career options they have, and how to pursue them. Career Counseling also helps them understand their own strengths and weaknesses with regard to their present course or profession, and let them know what career they would be suited for.
After three years of a bachelor’s program, students are faced with another challenge .As they become ready to either take the first step in the job market where thousands of people are literally applying for the same job or gearing themselves up to get a spot in the best universities in India and abroad for a Masters’ program. If getting past the grueling college routine and course curriculum does not give them a clue of what they can become in life, then it leads to a problem. It is possible that they might have done really well during graduation years but it may still leave them with feelings of emptiness and confusion. Whether they are considering going for a job or pursuing further higher studies, they will require career guidance. Career counseling will not prepare them for an immediate sense of achievement but will also make students ready for long successful professional life ahead.
