Year of Establishment of Geography Department: 1999
1 Objectives
a. To impart quality education and equip students with abilities for their future careers.
b. To improve the learning and skill abilities of students to make them employable.
c. To build confidence and improve the personality of students.
d. To get a command over language, which enhances their chances for new avenues.
Action Plan of Department of Geography Session 2025-2026
Apart from regular teaching work, the Department intends to focus on the following plans for the Session 2025-2026:
Introduction of CBCS under RUSA:
Students will be initially guided on the Choice-Based Credit System, where marks are allocated to various activities, including attendance, Seminars, Assignments, Term-End Examinations, class tests, and mid-Term Tests. They will be guided about different courses and the credit system.
Career Guidance:
Students will be guided on various careers in Geography, particularly in the new fields of GIS and Geospatial Technologies.
Conducting Seminars and Participation in National/International Conferences:
Seminars will be conducted for students, and they will also participate in National and International Conferences.
Other Extension Activities:
Awareness programmes will be conducted with the help of local people/other institutes/organisations as an extension activity.
Field Studies:
Students will be guided to conduct surveys, field study techniques, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
Knowledge of Software used in Geography (Skill Development):
Students will be made aware of various software used in recent geographic studies, and especially exercises in QGIS will be conducted. Also, the use of Google as a platform for Geospatial studies will be introduced.
Cartographic Techniques:
Computerised cartographic techniques will be introduced to students at various levels and exercises will be conducted.
1 Facilities in Department:
Departmental facilities can be categorized into:
A. Lab Equipments
The geography department has purchased lab equipment according to the changing syllabi over the years.
B. ICT
ICT facilities with an interactive panel are available in the department. Teachers use PowerPoint presentations and other techniques to make their lectures more interesting.
C. Furniture
The department has adequate furniture for students, which includes tables, workstations, stools, chairs, almirahs, and book racks.
D. GIS Lab
A GIS Lab has been established with eight computers and one printer initially, and a power backup system. Students learn to prepare maps and complete exercises that help in their skill development.
E. Books
All text and reference books are available to students. There are a number of e-journals and e-resources made available through the college website.
F. Facilities for teachers
Teachers can utilize the library, which offers access to several e-journals available through N-List.
